1. SPORTS BACKGROUND.
In 1974 he entered the Everton Chess Branch, in Viña del Mar.
In 1978, when he was only 15 years old, he participated in the 23rd Fide Chess Olympiad in Argentina.
In 1979, he is Junior Pan American Champion and 5th in the world in the under 17 category. In the same year he achieved the 3rd. place World Cadets Championship. Belfort, France; and the 1st. place of the Junior Pan American Championship, in Mercedes, Uruguay.
In 1980, he is Champion of the International GM Tournament in Tel Aviv, Israel, achieving the first International Chess Grand Master (GMI) norm at the age of 17. He obtains 3rd place, among chess players from 87 countries, in the German World Championship for Under 20s, after making a draw with the Russian Garry Kasparov, considered one of the best chess players in the history of chess. Participates as first board of the Chilean team in the 24th World Chess Olympiad in Malta.
In 1982, he represents Chile in the 25th Fide Chess Olympiad in Switzerland. In the same year he achieved Third Place in the Junior World Championship. Copenhagen, Denmark.
In 1984, he obtained a Bronze Medal at the 26th Fide Chess Olympiad in Greece (Thessaloniki).
In 1985, at the age of 22, he obtained the title of International Grandmaster (GMI) for his second place in the Brazilian GM Tournament and ranked among the top 50 chess players in the world. He becomes the first Chilean to achieve the title of International Chess Grand Master. He is titled South American Champion in the Maximum Chess Category.
In 1991, he achieved a victory against the Vice World Champion Víctor Kortchnoi by 3.5 to 2.5 in Santiago, Chile, and was crowned champion of the International Tournament in Las Palmas, Spain.
In 1993, he is Champion of the XVI Category International Tournament in Las Palmas, Spain, the strongest championship of that year. In the fair, he beats the world champions Anand (India), Khalifman (Russia) and Topalov (Bulgaria); and the notables GM Yusupov (Germany), Adams (England), Aimazparashvili (Georgia), Georgiev (Bulgaria), Christiansen (USA) and Rivas (Spain).
Also in 1998, he is Champion in a tie with GM Robert Hubner in the prestigious Capablanca Memorial Tournament.
In May 2003, he obtained 3rd place in the Capablanca Memorial International Tournament in Havana.
In August 2009, in Paraguay, after five years of retirement from the world circuit, he won the South American Champion Title in the Maximum Chess category for the third time.
In 2013, he achieved second place as an undefeated in the Capablanca Memorial International Open in Cuba.

2 MOROVIC METHOD.
